Fact

An outstanding 10% of budget over-runs in the $2.3 trillion construction industry result from design related issues. Removing inefficiencies from the design process isn't merely important; it's mission critical to maintaining an owner's bottom line.

So before you build... Ziggurat.

Overcoming the multi-disciplinary design challenge

Synergizing between the professional teams that design and deploy the nuts-and-bolts infrastructure of a building is a formidable task. Every engineering discipline has its own internal modus operandi and leans on its preferred 2Dor 3D rendering technologies to produce drawn designs. Getting the MEP designer and the Electric system designer on the same page might seem like a give,

but in practice achieving design harmony between different construction engineering professionals is far from obvious.

Typically, representatives of each collaborating design team will convene in frequent coordination meetings in an attempt to manually pinpoint the potential system overlap conflicts and resolve issues before they become physical clashes. Following a long and painstaking process, teams scamper off to complete their homework assignments under the duress of nerve-wracking deadlines, and reconvene with their proposed solutions, only to discover the next design clash that will hinder the progress of the project.

This glaring lack of system design coordination has a clear negative impact on a project’s timeline – and bottom line. Indeed, it is estimated that an additional 5-15% is added to a project budget  due to issues related to design coordination.
