A recent industry-wide building survey* found increased profitability with reduced costs and project duration due to the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and virtual construction software such as Ziggurat Systems' B4UB™.

73 percent of the participating construction, architecture and engineering firms found an increase in profitability with BIM, 58% found overall project duration was reduced by up to 50% and 55% said BIM helped cut project costs. Over 48% of respondents thought the detailed design phase takes less time with BIM and 47% thought the bid preparation phase takes less time with BIM.
Respondents agreed that the quality of building drawings improved with BIM and contained fewer errors. Improvements to the design process from the use of BIM were realized both in the construction phase as well as in overall project costs.

NEW YORK, NY–It is estimated that every construction project carries roughly 10% of over-budget costs due to problems emanating from Coordination of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems. The use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) tools addresses this challenge while improving profitability and cutting the time required from design to project delivery.

Researchers from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Stanford University recently studied the direct cost cutting and efficiency boosting benefits from use of BIM / VDC tools and processes for the coordination of MEP systems. The researchers studied a $96.9 million healthcare project in Northern California.
